New Zealand Tour Match 2017-05-07T17:30:38+00:00

A feature of the 1913-14 season was a match replayed at Maitland against the New Zealand touring team on December 12 and 13 1913.

The Northern District team selected to play against them was: RW McLean, C Hodgins, M Mackay (HRDCA); E Capp (capt.), R Fawcett, R Millard, W Hickson, WR Nowland (Upper Hunter which included Singleton); AC Lawrie, N Lawrie, C Sivyer (Allyn River). NZ won the match comfortably scoring 228 and 7-285 to the Northern District's 120 and 90. In the first innings R Mclean took 2-90 and in the second innings M Mackay scored 24. The match, however, was a financial loss to the Association.

The local competition, involving the same teams as the previous season, was keenly contested "but on the whole the standard of play was not equal to that of the previous season". With Brunkerville and East Maitland Literary Institute finishing equal on the point score, a final was played to decide the premiership, and this was won by East Maitland Literary Institute. The batting average for the season was won by Leon Moore ofStandards Club with 49.28, and the bowling by S Osland of Brunkerville with 20 wickets at an average of 7.05.

The season saw the introduction of a new country scheme by the NSWCA. Under the new format HRDCA was part of a Northern No.1 Division with the Upper Hunter and Allyn River Associations. These played inter-district matches from which a combined team was selected to playa Northern No.2 Division team (from Tamworth, Glen Innes, Armidale, Inverell and Moree) at Singleton. A combined Northern Division team was then selected to playa NSWCA team at Maitland, and this was followed by a Combined Country team playing a NSWCA team in Sydney. RW Mclean and C Hodgins of the HRDCA were 'chosen to' play for the combined Northern Division team and RW McLean went on to play for Combined Country.
